Tottenham Hotspur have signed Argentine defender Marcos Senesi on a free transfer following his departure from Bournemouth, the Premier League club said on Tuesday. The 29-year-old centre-back will officially join Tottenham on July 1, subject to international clearance, becoming the club’s second signing of the summer after Scotland defender Andy Robertson arrived on a free transfer from Liverpool.Senesi, who won three caps for Argentina, opted to leave Bournemouth after rejecting three contract offers from the south coast club earlier this season.”It is a very special feeling,” Senesi said in a club statement.”From the first moment, the club has shown why they want me and how much they want me to be a part of what they are building. It’s exciting and something I can’t wait to be involved in.”The former San Lorenzo and Feyenoord defender spent four years at Bournemouth and will wear Tottenham’s number five shirt.”Every time I step on the pitch, I will do my best to make the fans proud and to take the club back to the place it belongs,” Senesi added. “I want to win things with Tottenham and will do everything I can to make that happen.”Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi said the defender would add quality and experience to his back line after the club finished 17th in the Premier League in each of the last two seasons.”He’s comfortable playing in a possession-based team, reads the game very well and has the personality to thrive in a demanding environment,” De Zerbi said.”I also love his mentality and desire to keep improving and I’m looking forward to working with him and seeing the big contribution he can make to the team.”The club also announced that midfielder Yves Bissouma will leave when his contract expires this summer. The 29-year-old Mali international joined Tottenham from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022 in a deal reportedly worth £30 million ($40.7 million) and made 90 Premier League appearances for the north London side.Tottenham have also retained Wales defender Ben Davies, who has agreed a one-year contract extension.
