Nigeria’s Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has said the recent school abduction in Orire Local Government Area exposed major lapses in community intelligence gathering and information sharing, after armed men attacked communities, killed an Islamic Studies teacher and abducted seven teachers along with an unspecified number of students.
Makinde said preliminary findings showed that residents had noticed unusual movements and suspicious activities before the attack but failed to alert security agencies promptly.
The governor said stronger collaboration between local communities and law enforcement authorities was necessary to prevent similar incidents, adding that timely reporting of suspicious activities could help security agencies respond more effectively.
