The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said on Thursday it had contained a fire involving a gas-laden tanker at Ola Farm Bus Stop along Abaranje Road in Ikotun, with no fatalities or injuries recorded.
LASEMA said the tanker caught fire after the driver, who was travelling at speed, lost control when the vehicle hit a road bump, causing a tyre burst and igniting the blaze.
The agency said its response team, working with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, quickly brought the fire under control, secured the area and prevented it from spreading to nearby homes, businesses and other road users.
LASEMA added that the operation was supported by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and officers of the Nigeria Police, Ikotun Division, who managed traffic diversion and crowd control.
The agency said the fire had been completely extinguished and efforts were underway to evacuate the damaged tanker using heavy-duty equipment to restore normal traffic flow.
Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, urged motorists to obey speed limits, particularly around road bumps and in residential areas, saying such precautions help prevent accidents and protect lives and property.
He said the agency remained committed to disaster preparedness, rapid emergency response and public safety across Lagos State, while encouraging residents to report emergencies through the state’s toll-free lines, 112 and 767, for immediate assistance.
