The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said on Thursday it had concluded emergency operations following a truck accident at Aiye Bus Stop and a fire outbreak at a supermarket in Egbeda. The agency added that no casualties were recorded in either incident.
LASEMA said its Eagle Response Team was deployed at about 8:22 a.m. to Aiye Bus Stop, inward Aswani, after a truck carrying a 40-foot container became stuck when its front tyre slipped into a roadside gutter, obstructing traffic.
The agency said preliminary findings suggested reckless driving caused the incident. According to LASEMA, traffic was diverted in collaboration with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) while a heavy-duty recovery vehicle removed the truck from the road. It added that the vehicle was later handed over to the Nigeria Police.
In another development, LASEMA said that at 9:00 a.m., the agency’s Dolphin Response Team responded to a fire at Just Rite Supermarket along Akowonjo Road in Egbeda. It added that responders found the two-storey building engulfed in flames, while the cause of the fire remained under investigation.
LASEMA said firefighters, working with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and other emergency agencies, contained the blaze and prevented it from spreading to adjoining sections of the building. Supporting agencies included LASAMBUS, the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, the Nigerian Red Cross, the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigeria Police.
Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, praised the swift response and collaboration among emergency agencies, saying the operations demonstrated the effectiveness of Lagos State’s emergency response system.
He urged motorists to obey traffic regulations and avoid reckless driving, while calling on business owners to strengthen fire safety measures in commercial premises. LASEMA said it remains on alert to protect lives and property across the state.
