The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) said on Monday it had increased daily services on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line to 94 trips from 90, as demand for rail transport continues to grow in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
LAMATA said in a statement that the revised timetable would take effect from June 15, with weekday and Saturday train operations now commencing at 6:00 a.m., 30 minutes earlier than the previous 6:30 a.m. start time.
LAMATA’s Head of Corporate Communication, Kolawole Ojelabi, said the changes were aimed at improving passenger convenience, reducing waiting times and accommodating the increasing number of commuters using the rail corridor. “Under the new schedule, trains will begin operations 30 minutes earlier from Monday to Saturday, enabling thousands of commuters to start their journeys ahead of peak road traffic,” Ojelabi said.
He added that train services would continue to end at 9:30 p.m., despite the increase in daily operations. “While the service will continue to close at 9:30 p.m., the increase to 94 daily trips is expected to further ease platform congestion and improve travel efficiency,” said Ojelabi.

LAMATA also revealed that it has increased Sunday services to 24 trips from 22, with trains operating at 30-minute intervals throughout the day to provide passengers with greater predictability and convenience.
The authority said the latest service enhancement reflected the growing popularity of the Blue Line since passenger operations began on Sept. 4, 2023.
According to LAMATA, the rail system has transported more than six million passengers since its launch, highlighting its role in improving urban mobility and reducing travel times across Lagos.
