Nigeria Police Boss Visits Oyo After Deadly Abduction, Attack

Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Rilwan Disu on Saturday visited Oyo State following a deadly attack and abduction in Oriire Local Government Area that occurred in the early hours of Friday, police said.

Disu expressed concern over the incident and offered condolences to families of those killed in the attack, according to a statement by police spokesperson DCP Anthony Okon Placid.

The police chief was accompanied by Ojo Adekimi and Abayomi Shogunle during the visit, as authorities intensified efforts to secure communities around the Oyo-Kwara border and strengthen school safety measures.

The statement said Disu met with the state commissioner of Police Abimbola Olugbenga and other security officials, where he received operational briefings on rescue efforts and security deployments across affected communities.

The IGP said the Nigeria Police Force, working with other security agencies, had intensified search-and-rescue operations, intelligence gathering and tactical deployments aimed at securing the release of abducted victims and arresting those responsible.

He described the attack as “cruel and unacceptable” and said additional tactical and intelligence assets had been deployed to reinforce operations in the area and surrounding forests.

Police said the force remained committed to protecting schools, communities and citizens across the country.
