Former Zamfara senator Kabir Marafa has defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Marafa, who joined the ADC on April 8 after resigning from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in August 2025, formally aligned with the NDC at an event in Abuja attended by party leaders and supporters.
NDC National Leader Seriake Dickson said the defection was both strategic and symbolic of a broader political realignment ahead of upcoming elections. He described Marafa as a strong and dependable figure whose experience in public service would strengthen the party’s push for inclusive governance.
Dickson said the NDC was built on principles of unity, service and people-focused leadership, with priorities including tackling insecurity, economic hardship and inequality.
The party’s National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, called the move a milestone, describing it as part of a wider effort to expand the party’s national reach.
Marafa said his decision to join the NDC was bold and necessary, he urged his supporters in Zamfara and across the North-West to join the party and participate in its activities.
