Adeboye Walk Targeted Insecurity, Not Jonathan Administration, RCCG Says

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has dismissed claims circulating on social media that its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, participated in a protest against the administration of former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, describing the narrative as false and misleading.

The claim centres on a photograph showing Adeboye holding a placard during a public walk. Social media users have recently shared the image as purported evidence that the cleric protested against Jonathan’s government.

According to the clarification, the photograph was taken during a peaceful nationwide walk organised under the directive of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The RCCG said Churches across the country were encouraged to hold peaceful marches after services to draw attention to the killing of Christians and other Nigerians and to urge authorities to strengthen security measures.

Adeboye’s participation in the walk at Ebute Metta in Lagos formed part of that nationwide exercise and was not connected to Jonathan’s administration, the statement said.

It added that the event was aimed at advocating the protection of innocent lives regardless of religious affiliation, with Adeboye’s message stressing that all lives matter to God.

The clarification also rejected suggestions that Adeboye should direct the country’s political leadership on governance matters, noting that he is a religious leader and does not hold political office.

However, the statement said the cleric has spoken publicly on national issues, including insecurity.

The RCCG said during the November 2025 Holy Ghost Service, Adeboye urged the government to take stronger action against terrorism and advised that security chiefs be held accountable for tackling the threat.

The statement reiterated that RCCG is not affiliated with any political party and is not responsible for the country’s political or economic challenges.

It urged the public to verify information about Adeboye and the church through official RCCG communication channels before sharing claims online.
