Nigerian President Bola Tinubu on Sunday congratulated Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election, saying the victory was an assurance that democracy would continue to flourish in Africa’s most populous country.
Tinubu, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Adeleke’s victory confirmed the confidence placed in him by the people of Osun State.
“I called Governor Ademola Adeleke earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State. His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him,” Tinubu said.
The Nigerian leader urged the governor to unite Osun people and mobilise them towards growth, stability and social and economic progress, irrespective of how they voted in the election.
He also commended the other contestants for the courage and discipline they displayed during the election, saying their participation strengthened Nigeria’s democratic culture.
“The outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our land,” Tinubu said.
The president also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for conducting what he described as a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner.
