Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday congratulated his deputy, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, on emerging as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 Lagos governorship election.
Hamzat was declared winner of the party’s direct primary election held across the state on Thursday, securing the APC ticket to succeed Sanwo-Olu when his tenure ends. In a statement, Sanwo-Olu described Hamzat’s emergence as a demonstration of the confidence party members and Lagos residents have in his leadership and vision for the state.”On behalf of my family, I congratulate Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat on his emergence as the standard bearer of our great party, the All Progressives Congress, in next year’s gubernatorial election in Lagos,” the governor said.
Sanwo-Olu said the large turnout of party members at polling centres during the primary election reflected strong support for Hamzat and confidence in his ability to build on the achievements of the current administration.
He also commended APC members for their peaceful conduct throughout the primary process, praising their loyalty and commitment to the party.
The governor urged party members to remain united and continue working toward the success of the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.”There is still more work ahead of us as a party, and I urge all members to remain united and committed to the progress of Lagos State and the success of our great party,” he said.
Hamzat’s victory positions him as the APC flagbearer in the race to become the next governor of Lagos State in 2027.
