Labour Party 2023 Presidential Candidate Peter Obi on Thursday expressed grief over the death of retired Lieutenant General Chikadibia Isaac Obiakor, describing him as a distinguished soldier and one of Nigeria’s finest international peacekeepers.
Obi said Obiakor served Nigeria with courage and integrity, representing the country both within the armed forces and at the United Nations.“It is with great sorrow that I share the news of the passing of Lt. Gen. Chikadibia Isaac Obiakor, a respected soldier, patriot, and one of Nigeria’s exceptional international peacekeepers,” Obi said in a statement.
He said he had recently spoken with the late general and referenced him at a public event last Monday, adding that it was difficult to believe their conversation would be the last.
Obi described the late military officer’s life as one marked by sacrifice, professionalism and commitment to peace and humanity, saying he inspired many officers and young Nigerians through his service.
He extended condolences to Obiakor’s family, the Nigerian Armed Forces and others mourning the retired general, praying for strength for his loved ones and eternal rest for his soul.
