African Democratic Congress 2027 Presidential Candidate Atiku Abubakar said on Thursday that his meeting with former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi focused on Nigeria’s worsening economic hardship, insecurity and efforts to find solutions to the country’s challenges.
Atiku disclosed details of the meeting in a post on social media after visiting Amaechi at his residence in Abuja.
The former vice president said both men held “deep and honest conversations” about what he described as the troubling state of the nation and the responsibility of patriotic Nigerians to help rescue the country from “drift and despair.
”“Beyond the warmth and camaraderie, we had deep and honest conversations about the troubling state of our nation, the growing economic pain, insecurity, and the urgent responsibility on patriotic Nigerians to continue engaging in the search for solutions,” Atiku said.

He also congratulated Amaechi on his birthday and joked about Arsenal’s recent success, describing the former transportation minister as “a thoroughly well-loaded Gunner.”
Atiku added that Amaechi apologised for not preparing Fisherman Soup during the visit, promising to serve the delicacy at a future meeting.
The meeting came days after Atiku emerged as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress for the 2027 election, defeating Amaechi and former banker Mohammed Hayatu-Deen in the party’s primary.
