Nigeria Finance Minister, Oyedele Promises Reforms To Boost Growth

Nigeria’s new finance minister Taiwo Oyedele who on Friday assumed office, pledged to consolidate economic stabilisation efforts and deepen reforms to deliver tangible benefits for citizens.

Oyedele, who took over from predecessor Wale Edun, said Nigeria was at a critical juncture and must build on gains already made to strengthen growth and stability.

He outlined priorities including improving productivity and growth through a predictable, investor-friendly policy environment anchored on consistency and clarity.

The minister also emphasised fiscal discipline and sustainability, promising transparent and prudent management of public resources.

He said the government would pursue revenue optimisation and fair taxation by broadening the tax base, harmonising revenue administration and reducing the burden on vulnerable populations.

Oyedele added that stronger coordination across government institutions and deeper collaboration with the private sector would be key to effective policy implementation.

He said that success would depend on disciplined execution, accountability and measurable results, as the government seeks to accelerate growth and build a more inclusive economy.
