Messi Set For 200th Argentina Appearance Milestone

Argentina captain Lionel Messi is set to make his 200th appearance for Argentina when the reigning world champions face Algeria in their opening Group J match at the FIFA World Cup.

The 38-year-old forward, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in football history, would become the first Argentine player to reach the milestone, extending a national record that has spanned nearly two decades.

Messi made his senior debut for Argentina in 2005 and has since led the team to multiple major titles, including the 2022 World Cup, two Copa America crowns and the Finalissima.

The Inter Miami player has scored more than 100 international goals and remains a key figure in Argentina’s bid to retain the World Cup title.

Speaking ahead of the match, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni praised Messi’s longevity and influence, saying his commitment and leadership continue to inspire younger players in the squad.

Argentina open their World Cup campaign against Algeria on Tuesday, with Messi poised to add another landmark achievement to his illustrious international career.
