Argentina, France and Norway made winning starts to their FIFA World Cup campaigns on Tuesday, securing victories over Algeria, Senegal and Iraq respectively in group-stage action.
Argentina cruised to a 3-0 victory over Algeria in Group J, with the South Americans dominating possession and creating the better chances to begin their quest for a third World Cup title.
Lionel Messi who played his 200th senior international game for Argentina scored a hat trick for a win which placed Argentina among the early pace-setters in the group.
In Group I, France overcame a spirited Senegal side 3-1, with the former world champions capitalising on their attacking quality to claim all three points.
Kylian Mbappe scored a brace for the French though Senegal threatened at times but were unable to contain France’s firepower.
Norway also enjoyed a strong start in the same group, beating Iraq 4-1 in a convincing display. The Norwegians took control early with an Erling Haaland 29th minutes goal as the team maintained their advantage throughout the contest, boosting their chances of progressing to the knockout stage.
The results leave Argentina top of Group J, while France and Norway share the early lead in Group I as teams continue their opening-round fixtures at the expanded 2026 World Cup.
