The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said it responded to separate road incidents in Ikorodu and Palmgrove, including a hit-and-run accident that left an elderly man with severe injuries.
LASEMA said its Lion Response Team was dispatched to Agbowa Community, inward Itoikin Road, Ikorodu, at about 2:10 p.m. after receiving a distress call.
Responders arrived about 10 minutes later and found an elderly man, identified as Muhammad Bello, lying by the roadside after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.
Paramedics said Bello sustained severe injuries, including suspected fractures to both legs. LASEMA said it activated medical support and contacted the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) to transport him for further treatment.
LASEMA, the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps and the Nigeria Police Force remained at the scene to manage the situation and ensure the safety of road users.
In a separate incident, an empty gas truck rammed into a road median at Palmgrove, inward Obanikoro, along Ikorodu Road, at about 4:20 p.m.
LASEMA said its Cobra Response Team arrived six minutes after being dispatched and found that the truck had crashed into the median following brake failure.
No death was recorded in the incident, the agency said.
LASEMA said its team, alongside the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and police, introduced traffic control measures to prevent further accidents.
The agency said its heavy-duty recovery equipment, Super Metro, was deployed to assist a private towing vehicle in removing the truck and restoring normal traffic flow.
LASEMA Permanent Secretary Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu commended the response teams and collaborating agencies for their prompt intervention.
He urged motorists to obey traffic rules, maintain their vehicles regularly and act responsibly towards other road users.
LASEMA also urged members of the public to report emergencies through the 767 or 112 toll-free emergency lines.
