The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed Murtala Garo as the state’s new deputy governor following his screening during plenary.
The decision was reached during a session presided over by Speaker Jibril Isma’il Falgore. Chairman of the ad hoc committee and Deputy Speaker Muhammad Bello said the nomination followed the resignation of former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
The committee said the screening was conducted in line with provisions of the 1999 Constitution.
Cliqmetro reports that Garo was questioned on his educational background, work experience and understanding of governance, while lawmakers also verified his certificates and other credentials.
During the exercise, the nominee expressed readiness to assume office and outlined plans to work closely with Governor Abba Yusuf to achieve the state’s programmes.
Lawmakers unanimously adopted the committee’s recommendation to confirm Garo, who fills the vacancy in the state’s executive arm after Gwarzo’s resignation.
