Coup Suspect Arrives In Court Ahead of Arraignment

One of the defendants in the alleged coup plot case, Abdulkadir Sani, arrived early at the Federal High Court in Abuja ahead of his arraignment, while five others were yet to appear as proceedings were set to begin. He is the only defendant not currently in custody.

The Federal Government has filed a 13-count charge against the suspects, including retired military officers, a police inspector, and others, over alleged terrorism, conspiracy, and plans to overthrow the government. A former Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, is also listed in the charge but remains at large.

The defendants are expected to be arraigned before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, where the charges will be read and pleas taken. Security was heightened around the court complex as officials awaited the arrival of the remaining defendants.
