The Lagos State House of Assembly has passed the Lagos State Artisans and Craftsmen Regulatory Board Bill 2025 for second reading, paving the way for the regulation of artisans and craftsmen.
The proposed law seeks to establish a board to register, train, certify and regulate practitioners, while protecting consumers from unqualified service providers.
Lawmakers said the bill would standardise professional conduct, create a database of certified artisans, facilitate access to loans and empowerment programmes, and provide a platform for resolving public complaints.
Speaker Mudashiru Obasa said effective regulation would boost security, job creation, economic growth and government planning through reliable data.
The bill has been referred to the House Committee on Commerce and Industry for further legislative scrutiny.
The House subsequently adjourned plenary until Aug. 17
