The Lagos State House of Assembly has called for urgent measures to curb the vandalism of public infrastructure, particularly bridges.
The resolution followed a viral video showing suspected vandals removing iron rods, steel reinforcements and cables from the Festac Town-Alakija Link Bridge.
The lawmakers also cited the recent conviction of 30 suspected vandals, who were sentenced to two months in prison for vandalising bridges across the state.
Speaker Mudashiru Obasa called for stronger enforcement while cautioning against measures that could unfairly target legitimate operators such as barrow pushers.
Majority Leader Moshood Aro urged security agencies, including the Police, Rapid Response Squad and Kick Against Indiscipline, to intensify surveillance and intelligence-led operations around critical infrastructure.
The Assembly called for improved capacity for the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps and stronger collaboration among government agencies, security personnel and residents to protect public assets.
