Tinubu Hails APC Primaries, Praises Democratic Participation

President Bola Tinubu on Saturday said the nationwide 2026 primaries of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) demonstrated the party’s commitment to internal democracy and grassroots participation.

Tinubu spoke after casting his vote in the APC presidential primaries at Ikoyi-Obalende Ward L2 in Lagos. He was accompanied by first lady Oluremi Tinubu and received by party leaders, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to the primaries.

The president said the exercise had been conducted peacefully and in line with democratic principles. He described it as an example of grassroots politics that allows party members to participate directly in choosing their leaders.“This is a demonstration of internal democracy, it shows that we have internal democracy and it’s peaceful and well organised,” Tinubu said.

The Nigerian leader expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the primaries across the country, commending governors and party officials for overseeing ward congresses, local government congresses, delegate accreditation, membership registration and other electoral processes. He said the organisation of the exercise reflected a high standard of democratic practice within the party.

The president reiterated the APC’s commitment to transparent and inclusive political processes and said grassroots participation remained essential to sustainable democratic development.

Tinubu also praised electoral officials, party leaders and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful exercise. He urged Nigerians to continue supporting democratic institutions and national unity.

The President said his administration remained committed to democratic governance, political stability and policies aimed at improving the welfare of citizens.
