The Niger Police Command said it has arrested a suspected cultist with a pistol and military wears, in Bida, Niger.
A statement by the command’s Spokesman, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said that the suspect was arrested on April 22, during a stop and search near the Federal Polytechnic, Bida.
“Police operatives attached to ‘B’ Division Bida while on routine patrol arrested a 30-year-old man near the Federal Polytechnic, Bida on April 22 at 2:00a.m.
“It was reported that the suspect was observed on a motorcycle approaching a temporary Police checkpoint in Bida.
“But on sighting the Police operatives, he stepped down from the motorcycle and took to his heels, which raised a strong suspicion” he said
The Police spokesman said the suspect was chased by the Police team who arrested him. He stated that during the spot search, the suspect was found with a Baretta pistol.
Abiodun said during a further search of his residence, a military camouflage cap, knicker and a jacket were recovered.
The Police said that the suspect upon interrogation confessed to been a member of a cult group known as “Vikings”.
The police spokesman said that the suspect claimed to have bought the pistol from a resident of Suleja at the cost of N300,000.
Abiodun said that the suspect informed investigators that he was a photographer on campus and a friend gave him the camouflage.
