King Mohammed VI has appointed his son, Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, to a senior coordinating role within the North African kingdom’s military, according to a statement from the royal court. The statement said the king, who serves as chief of the military general staff, had “graciously decided to appoint” the 22-year-old as coordinator of the offices and services of the general staff of the Royal Armed Forces.

The appointment places the crown prince in a key position within the military hierarchy, overseeing coordination among senior offices and services.
King Mohammed VI, had himself held the same role at the heart of the top brass from 1985, after being appointed by his father, Hassan II.
