Lagos State emergency response agencies cleared three major road incidents across the state early on Saturday, restoring traffic flow without recording any fatalities, authorities said.
Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) in partnership with other responders from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Nigeria Police and other agencies coordinated rescue and recovery operations to the incidents which occurred at Olupese Bus Stop inward Oshodi, Aswani Bus Stop inward Iyana Isolo, and Oba Ogunji Road.
LASEMA said at Olupese Bus Stop, a truck transporting granite became stuck after its rear tyre sank into a pothole, blocking traffic inward Oshodi. LASEMA said it diverted traffic and deployed its heavy-duty recovery equipment to remove the vehicle. No injuries or deaths were reported.
At Aswani Bus Stop, LASEMA said a Toyota Sienna collided with an oncoming truck, forcing the truck onto a culvert and obstructing the roadway. Three people two women and one man were said to have sustained injuries and were treated by emergency medics before being taken to hospital.
LASEMA added that both vehicles were later removed and traffic restored.
In another development, the agency said on Oba Ogunji Road, a concrete mixer truck belonging to the Ministry of Environment collided with a Volkswagen bus in an accident authorities attributed to excessive speed by the bus. No casualties were recorded, and both vehicles were cleared from the road after on-site repairs and towing operations.
LASEMA said it Permanent Secretary Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu commended the coordinated response by emergency agencies and urged motorists to avoid speeding, reckless driving and other traffic violations.
He said the Lagos State Government would continue investing in emergency response capacity while encouraging residents to report emergencies through the state’s toll-free numbers, 767 and 112.
