Vice President Kashim Shettima says the most difficult phase of Nigeria’s economic reforms is over, declaring that the country is now positioned for a period of economic growth and prosperity.
Shettima made the statement in Calabar, Cross River State, during the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential campaign rally, where he called for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027, alongside Governor Bassey Otu, his deputy, Peter Odey, and other party candidates.
The Vice President described the next four years of the Tinubu administration as a period of harvest, insisting that the government has laid the foundation for economic recovery through its ongoing reforms.
He maintained that the APC administration has more work to complete and urged Nigerians to support continuity, while acknowledging the need for accountability and responsiveness to citizens’ concerns.
Highlighting federal government projects in Cross River State, Shettima identified the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a major infrastructure initiative expected to improve transportation, boost tourism, attract investment and create employment opportunities.
He also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the proposed Bakassi Deep Sea Port, saying the project would position the state as an international maritime gateway and stimulate industrial and commercial activities.
On the state’s economic interests, the Vice President assured that the Federal Government recognises Cross River’s littoral status and is committed to finding a resolution to the dispute over 46 oil wells.
Cross River state Governor Bassey Otu also commended the President’s economic policies, expressing confidence in the state’s support for the APC in the 2027 elections.
Earlier, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, described President Tinubu as a change agent, citing projects including the deep seaport, Calabar Port and Trans-Sahara Superhighway as reasons for supporting the administration
For his part, the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Abdulaziz Yari, said President Tinubu had performed creditably well and deserved a second term, dispelling rumours that the northern part of the country would not support the President’s re-election bid.
The rally attracted Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Governors Umo Eno, Monday Okpebholo and Hope Uzodinma, alongside other APC chieftains.
The Vice President had earlier visited the palace of the Obong of Calabar, where the traditional ruler called for unity and peaceful coexistence among the people of Cross River State.
