El-Rufai Files No-Case Submission As DSS Closes Prosecution

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has opted to file a no-case submission in his alleged national security breach trial after the Department of State Services (DSS) closed its case before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Defence counsel Paul Erokoro (SAN) argued that the prosecution had failed to establish sufficient evidence against El-Rufai and requested time to file the application. The prosecution said it was satisfied that the evidence presented supported the charges.

The court also rejected El-Rufai’s request to vary his bail conditions, ruling that the existing terms remain valid.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik adjourned the matter until September 22 for the hearing of the no-case submission.

The DSS charged El-Rufai after he allegedly claimed in a television interview that he had intercepted a telephone conversation involving National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu. He has pleaded not guilty to the five-count charge.
