Nigerian activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore said he turned down an invitation to an opposition summit in Ibadan, criticising it as an effort to rebrand discredited political actors.
Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, said the gathering failed to offer a credible alternative for Nigerians seeking change.
He said those behind the summit were largely figures who had overseen years of corruption, stagnation and poor governance. Sowore argued that Nigerians would not forget their records.

Opposition Parties Leaders At Ibadan Summit
The activist added that his party would not take part in what he described as a “charade” involving established parties such as the All Progressives Congress, People’s Democratic Party, Labour Party and African Democratic Congress.
Instead, he said the African Action Congress would focus on building a grassroots-driven movement anchored on accountability and meaningful reform. “We will mobilize Nigerians across the country to rally behind a credible vision that rejects the decadence and deception represented by both the @OfficialAPCNg and their opportunistic counterparts in ADC, PDP, Labour Party and elsewhere”, Sowore said.
The Activist said Nigeria needs a complete break from the past, not a reshuffling of the same failed actors.
