France’s Highest Court Upholds Hakimi Rape Trial

France’s highest court has upheld a decision for Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi to stand trial over an alleged rape.

The Court of Cassation rejected Hakimi’s appeal against a decision by the Versailles appeals court, which found sufficient evidence for a criminal trial.

The case relates to allegations by a woman who accused Hakimi of raping her at his home in a Paris suburb in March 2023.

Hakimi, who has consistently denied the allegation, maintains his innocence and has said he welcomes the opportunity to clear his name in court.

The 27-year-old had challenged the decision to send him to trial after an investigative judge ordered the case to proceed earlier this year.
