Manchester United have reached an agreement with Michael Carrick to appoint him as the club’s permanent head coach, with a formal announcement expected within 48 hours.
The BBC says the process of exchanging contracts is under way, although there remains some uncertainty over whether the formalities will be completed before Sunday’s Premier League match against Nottingham Forest.
The club is aiming to finalise the appointment ahead of its last home game of the season.
Carrick is expected to sign an initial two-year contract with the option of a further 12 months. The former Manchester United midfielder has overseen a sharp improvement in results since replacing Ruben Amorim, who was dismissed in January.
Under Carrick, United secured qualification for next season’s Champions League, strengthening his position as the leading candidate for the permanent role.
CliqMetro understands that the club’s executive leadership team, including chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox, recommended Carrick’s appointment to owners INEOS, who approved the decision.
