Nigerian President Bola Tinubu on Friday pledged to restore security, deepen economic recovery and ensure that the benefits of his administration’s reforms are felt by citizens across the country, as he marked the third anniversary of his presidency.
In a nationwide broadcast, Tinubu said his government remained committed to tackling insecurity and rebuilding confidence in the economy despite ongoing challenges.“Security remains central to our national mission and to the creation of a virile and prosperous society,” Tinubu said.
He said the Armed Forces and security agencies had intensified operations against terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, oil thieves and other criminal groups nationwide.“Our Armed Forces and security agencies have intensified operations against terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, oil thieves and criminal networks,” he said.
Tinubu said many communities and highways across the country were gradually becoming safer and more economically active, although security threats persisted in some areas.“While challenges remain, many communities and highways are becoming safer and more economically active,” he added.
The president said his administration was strengthening intelligence gathering, surveillance, logistics, technology and coordination among security agencies to improve national security.“We are improving the capabilities of our armed forces and security agencies, and reclaiming the authority of the Nigerian state wherever criminality threatens peace and order,” The President said.
He assured Nigerians that the government would continue efforts to guarantee safety across the country.“I want to assure you that this government will not relent until every Nigerian can live, work, travel and dream in safety,” he said.
On the economy, Tinubu said infrastructure projects across transportation and energy sectors reflected progress under his administration.“From highways under construction to rail modernisation and expanded energy investments, our goal remains clear: to build a Nigeria that works for Nigerians,” he said.
The president acknowledged that the country still faced economic difficulties but said the foundations for recovery had been established.“We have not solved every problem, and we are not yet where we want to be. But the foundation for recovery has been laid,” Tinubu stated.
He said the government would continue efforts to reduce food and transportation costs and expand employment opportunities.
Tinubu noted that food prices had eased from peaks recorded in 2023 and 2024 and said the government was promoting compressed natural gas and electric vehicles to lower transport costs.
While calling for national unity, Tinubu urged Nigerians to embrace hope, discipline and collective sacrifice.
The president also assured investors and the international community that Nigeria remained committed to democratic stability, economic reforms and responsible governance.
