Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, on Saturday reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to protecting the country and creating a safer environment for citizens, saying security remained essential for national development.
Speaking at the Southern Kaduna Festival (SKFEST) 2026 in Kafanchan, where he received the Southern Kaduna Grand Commander Award, Musa said the Armed Forces and other security agencies were working relentlessly to address security challenges across the country.
“Security remains the foundation upon which national development is built. Together with the Armed Forces and other security agencies, we remain committed to protecting our nation,” Musa said.
He said lasting peace and development could only be achieved through unity, cooperation and collective responsibility, urging communities to continue supporting security operations through intelligence sharing and vigilance.
Musa also appealed to Nigerians to remain patient with ongoing government reforms, expressing confidence that they would produce positive outcomes despite current difficulties.
The minister dedicated the award to the people of Southern Kaduna, describing it as recognition of the region’s collective contributions to peace, development and national progress.
While expressing concern over continued cases of abductions in parts of the country, Musa said efforts were ongoing to secure the release of victims and strengthen security measures.
He urged young people to embrace education, entrepreneurship and productive engagement, warning against involvement in violence and criminal activities.“Your potential is limitless, but it must be channelled positively,” he said.
Musa also commended traditional rulers, religious leaders and community stakeholders for their role in promoting peace and unity across Southern Kaduna. The festival featured cultural performances, exhibitions and tourism showcases attended by government officials, traditional leaders and visitors from across Nigeria.
