Neuer Extends Bayern Contract Until 2027

Manuel Neuer has extended his contract with FC Bayern Munich by one year until 2027, the Bundesliga champions said on Friday.

The 40-year-old goalkeeper’s previous deal had been due to expire at the end of the season, but the extension will keep him at Bayern for a 16th year since joining from FC Schalke 04 in 2011.

“It was a clear decision after taking some time to reflect.

All the conditions are met here: with this team we can beat any opponent,” Neuer said in a club statement.

Regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers in football history, Neuer finished third in the 2014 Ballon d’Or rankings behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, the most recent time a goalkeeper placed in the top three.

German newspaper Bild reported Neuer is expected to play fewer matches during the 2026-27 campaign as Bayern prepare a gradual transition to backup goalkeeper Jonas Urbig.

Bayern also extended the contract of reserve goalkeeper Sven Ulreich for another season.

Neuer retired from international football in 2024 after earning 124 caps for Germany national football team and winning the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

He recently earned UEFA’s man of the match award following Bayern’s Champions League quarter-final first-leg victory away to Real Madrid CF. Since arriving in Munich, Neuer has won two Champions League titles and a record-equalling 13 Bundesliga crowns alongside long-time teammate Thomas Muller.

He has failed to win the Bundesliga only twice during his Bayern career — in his debut season in 2011-12 and again in 2023-24.

Neuer has also won the German Cup six times, including five titles with Bayern and one with Schalke.
