The Lagos State chairman of the African Democratic Congress, George Ashiru, said on Tuesday that the party’s coalition was formed to address Nigeria’s current challenges and would ultimately succeed.
In a statement issued in Lagos, Ashiru said the ADC remained committed to its founding vision of promoting national unity and purposeful development. He said the party’s founders conceived the movement about 20 years ago, anchored on unity, national rebirth and global relevance, adding that its guiding principle, “Arise and Shine,” reflects the belief that Nigeria must rise before its citizens can prosper.
Ashiru said the party began advocating for a coalition of like-minded political actors in 2017, with the effort materialising in 2025. He described it as a timely intervention in the country’s political landscape. “The coalition under ADC was designed to save Nigeria and not to pander to parochial interests. “While we acknowledge that no merger or coalition is without its challenges, we believe Nigerians can distinguish between genuine reformers and those driven by personal gain”, Ashiru said.
He said despite internal and external pressures, the party remained focused on its objectives and confident of public support in the coming months.
Addressing Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges, Ashiru said the ADC represented hope for ordinary citizens and would prioritise their welfare while demonstrating its capacity for transformative leadership. He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to national unity and development, urging members to remain focused on shared goals.
Ashiru also reiterated the party’s dedication to Lagos State, saying its vision was built on collective effort rather than individual interests. He added that the party would continue to work towards Nigeria’s progress and Lagos State’s success.
