The Nigerian Senate has ordered a probe into renewed attacks in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa.
The lawmakers also directed immediate provision of relief materials for displaced persons after violent attacks on communities, like Kwa, Gyakan, Rigange, Waduku and Tchobo, by gunmen allegedly on motor bikes.
The resolution for the probe followed a motion by Adamawa South Senator Binos Yaroe who raised concerns over terror unleashed on defenceless residents in the affected communities.
Yaroe expressed worry that the attacks occurred in spite of the dusk-to-dawn curfew and the presence of security personnel deployed to maintain peace in the affected areas.
Adamawa North Senator Amos Yohanna who supported the motion, described the prolonged crisis as tragic. He stated that violence had persisted in spite of efforts to restore peace.
Yohanna appealed to the National Assembly to work with the Adamawa government to sustain peace initiatives, while appealing to security agencies to intensify interventions.
The Senate mandated its Committee on National Security and Intelligence to probe the security situation and recommend lasting solutions to end the conflict.
The Lawmakers also directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide emergency relief materials for displaced persons.
